Rail – Movie Review

RAIL

யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர் (Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir)

Meaning:
“All places are our place, all people are our kin.”

வந்தாரை வாழ வைக்கும் தமிழ்நாடு (Vantharai vazhavaikkum Tamilnadu)

Meaning:
“Tamil Nadu welcomes and supports anyone who sets foot on its soil.”

These Tamil phrases beautifully encapsulate the culture of Tamils, emphasizing their open-mindedness and hospitality. Even though modern life in urban areas has eroded some of these long-standing values, they remain robust in the remote villages and rural areas, where humanity and compassion for fellow beings continue to thrive.

“Rail” is an excellent film that captures these emotions within a serene village setting, offering a visual feast. The storyline poignantly depicts the lives of migrant workers who leave their homes and travel from distant places, working tirelessly to support their families back home. The film contrasts their struggles with the often destructive lifestyle of some locals, who criticize the migrants while indulging in unproductive activities like drinking, smoking, and idling away their time.

Despite a slow first half, “Rail” delivers a powerful and relevant message about brotherhood and love. It stands out as a rare film that combines a compelling narrative with deep social commentary.

This is a must-watch movie that deserves appreciation. Kudos to the entire team for creating such a profound and impactful film.
